Valley Organizations and Communities Recognized for Sustainability Efforts
Salt River Project (SRP) recognized organizations, communities, businesses and individuals advancing sustainability efforts across central Arizona during its 13th annual Champions of Sustainability Awards ceremony.
Now in its 13th year, the Champions of Sustainability Awards program recognizes initiatives advancing environmental stewardship, resource conservation and community resilience in SRP’s service territory.
This year’s awards honored water conservation initiatives, renewable energy adoption, circular economy efforts and community engagement programs.
Honorees included the City of Avondale, Child Crisis Arizona, Meritage Homes, Walmart and Tempe Elementary School District 3.
“Sustainability is paramount for the success of our region,” said Vanessa Kisicki, SRP Associate General Manager of Customer Operations and Chief Customer Executive. “This year’s honorees show us what’s possible when collaboration, innovation and a shared commitment to our communities come together to advance sustainability and strengthen Arizona’s future.”
Beyond recognizing and supporting sustainability efforts across the Valley, SRP has its own slate of ambitious 2035 Sustainability Goals, which were designed to reduce carbon emissions, increase energy efficiency and electrification, conserve water and improve forest health.
SRP’s 2035 Sustainability Goals were originally approved in 2019 and are updated every five years to ensure they continue to meet the evolving needs of SRP customers and communities.
SRP is a community-based, not-for-profit public power utility and the largest electricity provider in the greater Phoenix metropolitan area, serving about 1.2 million customers. SRP provides water to about 2.5 million Valley residents, delivering 260 billion gallons of water (800,000 acre-feet) each year, and manages a 13,000-square-mile watershed that includes an extensive system of reservoirs, wells, irrigation laterals, and 131 miles of canals.
