SRP to Host Power Line Safety Demonstration to Help Valley Residents Stay Safe During Monsoon Season
WHAT:
Ahead of monsoon season, SRP will host a power line and heat safety media event to demonstrate what to do in the event of a power line falling on a nearby vehicle, and what to do if a power line falls on a car while someone is trapped inside. SRP experts will also offer additional best practices around power line and heat safety to help residents stay safe this summer.

- Simulated downed power line environment that includes fake smoke, a downed line and a vehicle.

DETAILS:
- Downed power lines are dangerous, and a single high-voltage power line carries an electric current strong enough to cause fatal injuries.
- Residents should stay at least 100 feet away from downed lines and wires (about the length of two semi-trucks) and should never touch or drive over power lines. If you see a downed power line, stay away and call 911.
- After a monsoon, SRP crews are often the first responders to arrive at the site of a downed power line. SRP crews will de-energize lines as safely and as quickly as possible to ensure the safety of other first responders and emergency personnel.
- Contractors and do-it-yourselfers should exercise extreme caution when working around overhead lines
- To avoid fires, power outages and other safety risks, cranes, ladders and other heavy equipment should always be at least 10 feet away from power lines.
