SRP to Host Downed Power Line Safety Demo to Support Community Safety During Monsoon Season

WHAT:
As Monsoon season kicks off, SRP will host a power line and heat safety media event to demonstrate what to do in the event of a power line falling on a nearby vehicle, and what to do if a power line falls on a car with people inside. SRP experts will also offer best practices around heat safety as temperatures climb and show Valley residents what to include in their heat safety kits.

DETAILS:

  • Downed power lines are extremely dangerous. A single high-voltage power line can carry electric currents that can be fatal.
  • People should stay at least 100 feet away from downed lines and wires (the length of two semi-trucks) and should never touch lines or drive over them if they are in the road. If you see a downed power line, stay away and call 911.
  • SRP crews are often the first responders to arrive at the site of a downed power line.
  • SRP crews will de-energize lines as safely and as quickly as possible to ensure the safety of other first responders and emergency personnel.
