SRP to Demonstrate Helicopter-based “Air Chair” Program

WHAT:
SRP will host a media event showcasing its helicopter-based air chair program, which allows specially trained linemen to be transported directly to transmission infrastructure in hard-to-access locations for critical inspection and maintenance work. During the demonstration, two linemen will be lifted by helicopter while seated in the air chair and perform simulated maintenance activities.

DETAILS:

• Using helicopters to access work sites allows crews to reach locations more quickly, make repairs faster and keep customers in power, improving reliability for customers and safety for crews.
• Linemen are trained to distribute and control their body weight to maximize safety and efficiency while working from the air chair.
• Linemen can also perform work on energized lines using the air chair, reducing the number of planned outages for customers.
• SRP is one of the only utilities in the state currently using this type of aerial access program, which began in 2024.
