SRP provides funding to City of Chandler to improve water efficiencies at city parks
SRP is partnering with the City of Chandler on the Landscape Water Efficiency Assessment Program (LEAP) to evaluate the irrigation systems at 75 municipal parks and city facilities to improve water efficiency and conservation.
The program supports Chandler's water conservation goals, as well as SRP's 2035 sustainability goal for water conservation. To support this program, SRP will provide funding for 15 assessments per year over the next five years and will also provide matching funding up to $10,000 per improvement project including irrigation system repairs and advancements in technology upgrades.
“For decades, the City of Chandler has invested in a diverse water portfolio and improving water efficiency,” said Water Resource Manager Simone Kjolsrud. “This partnership with SRP will help us find opportunities to improve our irrigation systems in our city parks, reducing water use without altering these green spaces for our residents.”
Eco Verde Irrigation, an independent professional consultant, will conduct customized irrigation efficiency audits at parks, create detailed reports and implement the recommended system improvements based on the performance assessment.

SRP has partnered with HOAs and other Valley cities on water conservation efforts to fulfill its goal of achieving 5 billion gallons of community water conservation through partnerships.
On average, City of Chandler parks currently use about 4.4 million gallons of water per acre annually for irrigation. LEAP improvements have the potential to reduce water use by up to 10% while maximizing the community benefits of these landscapes.
SRP is a community-based, not-for-profit public power utility and the largest electricity provider in the greater Phoenix metropolitan area, serving about 1.2 million customers. SRP provides water to about 2.5 million Valley residents, delivering 260 billion gallons of water (800,000 acre-feet) each year, and manages a 13,000-square-mile watershed that includes an extensive system of reservoirs, wells, irrigation laterals, and 131 miles of canals.
