SRP Offers Six Tips to Save Water and Electricity on Earth Day

SRP customers can celebrate Earth Day with these simple yet effective tips to help reduce their carbon footprint while saving on energy and water costs.

  • Bump up the thermostat – Keep your thermostat set between 78 and 80 degrees while home and several degrees higher at night or when away. Not only does this reduce energy demand, every degree above 80 can save a customer up to 3 percent on cooling costs.
  • Unplug small appliances All devices connected to a plug will consume energy, even if you are not using them. Small appliances such as hair dryers, coffee makers and toasters can contribute to up to 10 percent of annual energy costs.
  • Use shade screens Shade screens are one of the most effective, least-expensive ways to make a home more energy efficient. SRP offers customer rebates of $0.80 per square foot on qualifying shade screens. To learn more, visit savewithsrp.com.
  • Save at SRP Marketplace The Earth Day Sale is underway at SRP Marketplace. Customers can receive up to two smart thermostats for $0 and enjoy significant discounts on other energy-saving products.
  • Look out for leaks Toilets account for nearly 30% of a home’s indoor water use and are one of the most common types of leaks. Leaks for outdoor items like a sprinkler system or pool may be hard to notice. Check for leaks and repair them quickly to conserve water.
  • Use a Smart Irrigation Controller In the Valley, up to 70% of water use is outdoors. Use a smart irrigation controller to automatically adjust watering schedules and to help conserve water.

These are just a few ways customers can lower their footprint and save money in the process.

At SRP, we are working toward a sustainable future for Arizona by reducing our carbon footprint, conserving natural resources, modernizing and securing our grid, decreasing waste and engaging the communities we serve. Learn more about SRP’s sustainability goals at Sustainability at SRP.
