SRP Offers Heat Safety and Monsoon Story Ideas for Summer 2026

- Mylar Balloon Demonstration: Of the hazards that can cause unexpected outages and interrupt reliability, one of the most common are mylar balloons getting caught in power lines. As graduation, Memorial Day and summer celebrations kick off, join SRP for a live demonstration to see what happens when balloons and power lines meet, and learn how to celebrate safely this summer. - Power Line Safety Demonstration: As monsoon season approaches, learn what to do if you see a downed power line or if a downed power line falls on your car. SRP experts will also offer best practices around heat safety as temperatures climb and show Valley residents what to include in their heat safety kits. - Weather Balloon: SRP meteorologists and the National Weather Service launch balloons daily at 4 a.m. from the roof of SRP’s Headquarters in Tempe during the monsoon season. The data collected helps forecast storm activity and temperatures that assist with scheduling power crews and maintaining reliability and safety for customers and employees. On June 11, SRP meteorologists will conduct a training at 11 a.m. for five Arizona State University student interns who will be responsible for the daily launches. - Storm Preparedness and Safety Tips: SRP experts are available to share essential safety tips ahead of monsoon season. Experts can demonstrate how to build an outage safety kit for power interruptions and offer practical guidance on how to help prevent outages by securing outdoor items such as umbrellas, trampolines and patio furniture. - SRP Home Energy Assessment: SRP offers home energy assessments to help customers identify ways to save energy and reduce monthly bills. These evaluations can be completed online or in person. During an in-home visit, an expert assesses where energy is being wasted and provides simple, actionable recommendations to improve energy efficiency. The online assessment is free for all SRP customers, and in-person assessments are free for income-qualified customers and $49 for others. Media can speak with experts and customers who have completed the assessment to better understand the savings and benefits. - Free Swimming Lessons Available for Children and Adults: SRP is partnering with local aquatic centers across the Valley to offer free swimming lessons for children and adults, helping expand access to water safety resources in the community. Media are invited to visit participating aquatic centers and speak with families and instructors about the impact of the program and the importance of water safety.
