SRP Offers Behind the Scenes Look at Summer Preparedness Work at Kyrene Generating Station

WHAT:

SRP performs maintenance work at its generating stations to ensure they are ready to meet the demands of Arizona’s hot summers. The Kyrene Generating Station, a 580-megawatt natural gas plant, is undergoing a major maintenance project that requires its ~100,000 lb. combustion turbine rotor and other critical equipment be removed for inspection, cleaning and upgrades.

DETAILS:

• Kyrene Generating Station can produce up to 580 megawatts of energy, enough to power more than 130,000 homes.
• SRP began its annual maintenance work on the unit in February and is expected to have the unit back online in May. 
• SRP performs regular maintenance on all its generating facilities to ensure they are ready to meet summer energy needs.
• Natural gas resources like those produced at Kyrene are available 24/7 and can be used when renewable resources like solar and wind are not readily available.
