SRP Named Among Arizona’s Most-Admired Companies

Thirty-five-year-old Leah Harrison, SRP’s manager of Research Archives and Heritage, is a second-generation Salt River Project employee. Her father retired from SRP, after spending his career managing the transmission of power to the not-for-profit utility’s more than 1 million electric customers. Harrison is one of countless “legacy” employees whose fondness for the company as children led to seeking out SRP as a place to work to follow in their parents’ footsteps.

“I chose to work here because of SRP’s deep connection to the community and long history of dedicated service,” Harrison said. “SRP is admired in the Valley because of our focus on doing what is right — for our community, our industry and our employees.”

It is sentiments such as those that helped propel SRP to a 2019 list of Arizona’s Most Admired Companies by Az Business Magazine and BestCompaniesAZ. SRP was one of 50 companies honored recently at the 10th anniversary awards show at the JW Marriott Scottsdale Camelback Resort & Spa.

Companies were judged in five categories: Leadership Excellence, Workplace Culture, Corporate & Social Responsibility, Customer Opinion and Innovation.

“This is the most comprehensive corporate awards program in Arizona,” said Denise Gredler, CEO of BestCompaniesAZ and co-founder of the Most-Admired Companies award program. “These winners are joining a prestigious group of employers who greatly impact the state of our economy. We are grateful for their contributions to the community and making Arizona one of the best places to live and work in the U.S.”

“This recognition is a direct reflection of the daily contributions of a 5,000-strong SRP work force,” said Renée Castillo, SRP senior director of Human Resources. “We work hard to provide a great place for our employees to do their best work and are grateful to share this recognition as a team.”

As Harrison draws closer to completing a decade with the utility company, she has spread her affection for SRP to her husband, who has now sought a career at SRP too.

“I grew up steeped in SRP culture and credit the company with so many opportunities in my life,” she explained. “I always thought SRP would be a wonderful place to work, and as soon as I heard there were historians on staff, I wanted to work here. My dad had a huge influence on my decision, and it is one of the joys of my professional life to work at the same place as my dad.”
