SRP Encourages Customers to Avoid Scams on Memorial Day Weekend
As Memorial Day Weekend approaches, SRP is advising customers to stay vigilant against scam activities, which often spike during long weekends. Scammers use various methods to reach customers, such as impersonating utility workers to obtain financial information or insisting on immediate payment by threatening to disconnect service.
“During holiday weekends and the summer, we often receive a higher volume of calls from customers who have unfortunately fallen prey to fraud,” said Zack Thompson, SRP Director of Contact Center Operations. "Our primary advice is for customers to refrain from engaging with individuals who threaten service disconnection. Instead, hang up and reach out to SRP directly. Our customer service team is available 24/7 to provide assistance."
SRP will never ask customers for immediate payment. Customers who are at risk of service disconnection will always receive one or more notices by mail, and if the customer is enrolled in SRP eNotes™, they will also receive email notices. SRP customer representatives can call customers, but they will never pressure them into paying over the phone or request a particular payment method. SRP will not take payments through Zelle, MoneyPak, Cash App or Bitcoin.
Customers should also be cautious of impostor scams carried out through digital channels. These fraudulent methods include sponsored ads on search engines that direct users to fake SRP bill payment pages, QR codes leading to false payment portals, and text messages from scammers posing as utility representatives with links to impostor payment pages.
It’s important to note that many of these scams closely mimic the legitimate SRP payment page. If anyone ever doubts the authenticity of an email, website, or individual claiming to be from a utility company, they should contact SRP directly for verification. Avoid using any provided phone numbers to confirm billing or account details.
The Ways to Pay an SRP Bill Includes:
- SRP accepts payments online through SRP My Account™, the SRP Power App™ and SRP M-Power® App, or through its Paymentus website.
- Customers can also pay in person with cash at over 500 retail locations throughout the Valley. Please note that these locations require the barcode that is only available on a customer’s SRP bill or SRP cash payment card that is accessed via SRP My
Account.
Individuals who receive a suspicious call from someone who says they are from SRP should hang up and call SRP directly at (602) 236-8888 in English or (602) 236-1111 in Spanish. Even if the caller ID says the number is from SRP, scammers can easily spoof any number.
SRP customer service employees are here to help and are available 24 hours a day. If a customer receives a suspicious call, email or text regarding their account or has been impacted by a scam, please call SRP to report it.
