Residents Urged to Avoid SRP’s Arizona Canal During Canal Dry-up Maintenance Project
Maintenance projects, repairs to run from Jan. 8 to Feb. 7 in Scottdale
WHAT:
Portions of the Arizona Canal on the north side of the Salt River will be closed and drained over the next month for annual canal dry-up, maintenance and construction activities. This year’s dry-up will include more miles of the canal and will focus on repairing the areas of the canal system damaged by the storms that hit the Valley in late 2025.
By taking care of the canals, SRP is working to protect our waterways, prevent the loss of precious water and provide more community recreation spaces. Maintaining this critical infrastructure is part of our commitment to providing resilient and reliable water to the Valley. Each fall and winter, SRP performs dry-ups on a rotating 10-year schedule on portions of the canal system.
Water deliveries to Valley residents will not be impacted. Some of SRP’s northside irrigation customers will not receive water from the canals during the dry-up.
DETAILS:
The canal dry-up will be from Jan. 8 to Feb. 7 on about eight miles of the Arizona Canal in Scottsdale. There will be signage posted on the Arizona Canal from Mesa Drive and Camelback Road west to 68th Street and Indian School Road.
Fish herding will be from Jan. 9 to 13 with the maintenance portion including the use of excavators and dump trucks starting on Jan. 12 and continuing through Feb. 7.
