Junior Achievement of Arizona Receives a Free Solar System Through the SRP Solar for Nonprofits Program, Reducing Operating Costs by Up to 40%
The nonprofit can allocate their savings into programs to advance education in the state

The SRP Solar for Nonprofits Program has completed the installation of a 40kW solar system for Junior Achievement of Arizona (JA), a project expected to cut the organization’s electricity use by about 40%. The system will help JA reduce its electricity costs, allowing the nonprofit to allocate more resources to support its mission while embracing a more sustainable future.
JA empowers students across Arizona with essential financial literacy, career readiness, and entrepreneurship skills. JA equips students to manage their finances, plan for their futures, and make informed academic, career, and economic decisions. In the 2023-2024 school year, JA impacted approximately 190,000 diverse, primarily low-income students from rural, suburban, urban, and tribal communities statewide.
"We are deeply grateful for this partnership with SRP because it will help us reach even more students by offsetting our operational costs," said Edwin Mehta, Development Director at JA. "By saving on electricity costs, we can invest those resources into programs that teach students skills which will positively impact their families, future employers and community."
The new system was installed at the nonprofit’s location in Tempe. Construction of the system started in October last year, and the nonprofit began receiving clean energy from the system in March 2025.

Since it launched in 2007, SRP Solar for Nonprofits has installed 52 solar systems at Valley nonprofits. Collectively, these organizations have saved over $1 million in energy costs. Previous recipients of the program include the Arizona Humane Society, Aid to Adoption of Special Kids (AASK), A New Leaf and the AZ Agribusiness & Equine Center High School.
SRP is a community-based, not-for-profit public power utility and the largest electricity provider in the greater Phoenix metropolitan area, serving about 1.2 million customers. SRP provides water to about 2.5 million Valley residents, delivering 260 billion gallons of water (800,000 acre-feet) each year, and manages a 13,000-square-mile watershed that includes an extensive system of reservoirs, wells, irrigation laterals, and 131 miles of canals.
